I proposed an idea to speak at JSConfEU in Berlin, so I travelled internationally to speak. The event asked me to buy a ticket at full price, and I was not paid to speak. The event did not pay for my travel and accommodation. My employer paid all of my travel expenses, and I used my PTO to speak. It took me 3 weeks to prepare for my 25 minutes speaking slot, and I had a great time. I'm a person who has been speaking for 2 years. Also, My employer provides a stipend for personal development, so I declined the organizer's offer to cover my ticket, travel, and accommodations, in order to provide a bigger budget for community scholarships. I was not sent to the conference to represent my employer, but they provided the resources for me to attend the conference without costing the full price of covers speaker's costs.
