I proposed an idea to speak at Pycon UK in Coventry, UK, so I travelled domestically to speak. The event asked me to buy a ticket at full price, and I was not paid to speak. The event did not pay for my travel and accommodation. My employer did not pay my travel expenses, and I took unpaid time off to speak. It took me 7 days to prepare for my 30 minutes speaking slot, and I had a mostly good time. I'm a man who has been speaking for 6 years. This was a not for profit event. Also, I used my own technology, spoke about work, and was treated as a company representative. I took unpaid leave to talk, and my work benefitted. I paid for all of my expenses.
